CANTON — The NFL kicks off its preseason again inside Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium tonight.
The 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game features the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday, July 31 playing in the game that traditionally opens the league’s exhibition games.

Each team is playing in Canton for the first time since the 1990s. It’s the fourth time the Lions have played in a Hall of Fame Game and and third time for the Chargers.

The matchup between the Lions and Chargers is scheduled for Thursday, July 31, at 8 p.m. ET.
The game will be televised on NBC. On the broadcast for the game will be: Mike Tirico (play-by-play), Cris Collinsworth (analyst), Melissa Stark (sideline reporter) and Terry McAulay (rules analyst).

The Bears beat the Texans 21-17 in the 2024 Hall of Fame Game, which lasted just shy of three quarters before severe weather halted it permanently late in the third quarter.
The Lions are 1-2 in Hall of Fame Game appearances, with their first game in Canton in 1965. Here’s a look at their previous games:
- 1965 — vs. Washington (L, 20-3)
- 1976 — vs. Denver Broncos (L, 10-7)
- 1991 — vs. Denver Broncos (W, 14-3)

The Chargers have played two Hall of Fame games in Canton, and their record is 0-1-1. Their 1980 matchup against the Green Bay Packers was a scoreless game that was called off in the fourth quarter due to a storm. It was the only scoreless Hall of Fame Game in its history. This is their first Hall of Fame Game since leaving San Diego. Here’s a look at the games:
- 1980 — vs. Green Bay Packers (T, 0-0)
- 1994 — vs. Atlanta Falcons (L, 21-17)
The Class of 2025 features Eric Allen, Jared Allen, Antonio Gates and Sterling Sharpe.
The Enshrinement is 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. ESPN’s Chris Berman will be the host. The Class of 2025 will be the stars.

- The Grand Parade, which runs along Cleveland Avenue in downtown Canton, begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2.
