‘Hamilton’ celebrates 10 years on Broadway with special immigration services fundraiser show

Joelle Garguilo reports on Wednesday’s festivities for Hamilton’s 10th anniversary on Broadway.

MANHATTAN, New York (WABC) — “Hamilton” is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Broadway Wednesday, having opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Aug. 6, 2015.

The celebration saw a performance for fans at 1 p.m., Wednesday, before an invite-only anniversary performance at 7 p.m.

The evening performance is serving as a fundraiser for the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition. It is expected to raise nearly $3 million for the coalition of nonprofits providing immigration services, named for a popular line in “Hamilton.”

Many of the original cast members of “Hamilton” came to the Wednesday evening anniversary show, including Renée Elise Goldsberry (who won a Tony Award for her role as Angelica Schuyler), Jasmine Cephas Jones (who played Peggy Schuyler), Thayne Jasperson (who has remained in the cast for all 10 years of its run so far), and the show’s creator, composer, lyricist, and first titular star, Lin-Manuel Miranda himself.

Additionally, Wednesday saw the announcement that the filmed version of “Hamilton,” available to stream on Disney+, will be hitting movie theaters on Sept. 5 to celebrate the show’s 10th anniversary on Broadway.
