The 2025 NFL Draft has reached day 3 and Shedeur Sanders has finally been picked.

The former Jackson State and Colorado football quarterback was taken by the Cleveland Browns at pick No. 144 of the fifth round on April 26. The Browns traded up for the pick. It was the buzz of the draft because of how far he fell. Sanders was projected by mock drafts as a potential top five pick. Instead, he wasn’t selected in Round 1 on April 24, nor in Rounds 2 and 3 on April 25.

Why wasn’t Shedeur Sanders getting drafted?

Even some of the NFL draft experts were puzzled as to why Sanders wasn’t getting drafted.

However, some people like ESPN’s Adam Schefter predicted that Sanders could fall out of Round 1. Some reporters have also raised concerns from Sanders’ pre-draft interviews with NFL teams.

There’s also the Deion Sanders dynamic. Sanders has never played football on a team where his father wasn’t at least an assistant coach.

Was Shedeur Sanders prank called?

A video posted by Well Off Media appears to show Sanders getting prank called on April 25.

Tom Pelissero: NFL GM considering picking Shedeur Sanders on Day 3

NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero said on TV before the start of Day 3 that he spoke to one GM that is at least considering drafting Sanders. He did not say which team that is.

NCAA rules prohibit players who’ve entered the NFL draft to return to play college football.

Donald Trump, others react to Shedeur Sanders not getting picked

Sanders’ fall in the NFL draft has been a hot topic, even for celebrities outside of the sport.

“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?” President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social before the start of Round 2 on April 25. “Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”
