Lions fans can enjoy extra Lions football this year before the season even starts.
The Detroit Lions will play four preseason games instead of the usual three. The NFL added one against the Los Angeles Chargers at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday, July 31, at 8 p.m. This game opens the NFL preseason. Both coaches have announced that most of their starters will not be playing.
After that, the Lions still have three preseason games. On Friday, August 8, Detroit heads south to play the Atlanta Falcons at 7 p.m. The Lions will then play at Ford Field as they host the Miami Dolphins at 1 p.m. Aug. 16 and the Houston Texans at 1 p.m. Aug. 23.
The preseason schedule will have something special for Lions and Tigers fans alike. Tigers play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti will be on the call for all four games. He will be joined by former Lions offensive lineman and current Lions radio analyst T.J. Lang as the analyst and sideline reporter Dannie Rogers. For the Hall of Fame game, the crew will be on the Lions TV Network and not the main NBC broadcast.
The Hall of Fame game will be on NBC and the Lions TV Network. The other three games will broadcast on the Lions TV Network. There also will be a local radio call for all games on the Lions Radio Network with play-by-play from Dan Miller and analysis from Lomas Brown.
