Participating in Monday night’s Home Run Derby in Atlanta, the Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. bowed out early.
The lefty-hitting Chisholm drove three homers in his first round, then did not connect during his bonus round; his most majestic shot, a towering drive to right-center, was launched after time expired.
As planned for years, Chisholm’s Home Run Derby pitcher was his stepfather, Geron Sands, who had thrown to him since he was a kid growing up in the Bahamas.
Aaron Judge was the last Yankee to win the Home Run Derby, back in 2017 at Marlins Park in Miami.
That year, the Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton, then with the Miami Marlins, participated as the Derby’s defending champ, as well as then-Yankee Gary Sanchez and future Yankee Cody Bellinger, then with the Dodgers.

Judge, along with fellow Yankees All-Star teammates Max Fried and Carlos Rodon were on the field, rooting for Chisholm during his rounds at Truist Park.
Chisholm’s on-field rooting section included Yankees manager Aaron Boone and the team’s entire coaching staff. Boone will manage the AL team during Tuesday night’s All-Star Game.
Chisholm has 17 home runs in 65 games this year, a season interrupted for a month by an oblique strain.
