Is John Schneider making up for lost years in which he didn’t draft a quarterback?
Yes, the Seahawks took Alabama star Jalen Milroe in the third round with the No. 92 overall pick, marking their first QB selection since spring football legend Alex McGough back in 2018. But there was another player from the Seahawks’ heavily lauded class who can be a quarterback if needed.
Tory Horton is a trick play specialist
Fifth-round wide receiver Tory Horton has been a trick play quarterback throughout his collegiate career. Between his time at Nevada and Colorado State, Horton threw a total of six passes, completing five for 151 yards and this touchdown against Colorado in 2023.
“As soon as I released it, I knew it was a dot. When I released it, I knew it was on the money,” Horton said after the game. “I’ve got some dots in the career! I’ve got some pretty good throws.”
Horton did throw an interception against UNLV but hey, I’ll take the pretty high success rate that he has when he does throw the ball.
The Seahawks not only have themselves a very talented wide receiver who’s returned three punts for touchdowns, they also have an additional quarterback with a good arm and impressive accuracy. Clearly this was a top priority for John Schneider following the retirement of Jaxon Smith-Njigba from ever being a quarterback.
