Jason Momoa Says His Son Got Cast in ‘Dune 3’ on His Own and ‘I Don’t Want to Help Him’: ‘He’s 16 and Holding S— Down With Denis Villeneuve’

Jason Momoa told Extra at the premiere of Apple TV+’s “Chief of War” in Kapolei, Hawaii, that he played no part in landing his son, Nakoa-Wolf, a major new role in “Dune: Part Three.” Momoa starred as Duncan Idaho in Denis Villeneuve‘s first “Dune” movie and has already confirmed he will be back for the upcoming sequel after sitting out “Dune: Part Two.”

News broke in June that Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, the teenage son of Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet, had been cast in “Dune 3” alongside “Silo” star Ida Brooke. The young actors are set to play Leto II and Ghanima, the twin offspring of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya).

“A rude awakening is what he’s in for,” Momoa said about his son’s casting. “He’s into the workforce for the first time. It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.”

“You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is,” Momoa continued. “I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on ‘Baywatch’ at 19. He’s 16 and holding shit down with Denis Villeneuve.”

Momoa concluded, “We raised him beautiful. We raised our children… It’s just, you know, being loved and being confident in themselves… That is what he is. He’s very confident.”

Momoa walked the “Chief of War” red carpet with Nakoa-Wolf and daughter Lola Iolani. “Dune: Part Three” will adapt Frank Herbert’s second novel in the literary franchise, “Dune Messiah.” The plot centers on Paul “Muad’Dib” Atreides as he takes over as emperor.

Duncan Idaho is the swordmaster and mentor to Paul Artreides in 2021’s “Dune,” but the character sacrifices himself near the end of the film to allow Paul and his mother, Jessica, to escape from Sardaukar soldiers. In Herbert’s books, Duncan eventually returns in the form of a clone. It’s unclear if Villeneuve is taking a similar direction for “Dune: Part Three.”
