APPLETON (WLUK) — JCPenney has found a cash buyer for more than 100 of its stores nationwide, including their location at the Fox River Mall.
About five years after filing for bankruptcy, JCPenney reached a deal with a Boston private equity firm, who will pay $947 million for 119 JCPenney stores. The department store chain, which currently has approximately 650 stores, was one of the largest retailers to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
All 119 locations are currently operational. The deal is set to close Sept. 8, with the money going to JCPenney creditors.
