Jules Kounde has revealed how Hansi Flick urged his Barcelona team to improve at half-time against Dortmund during Tuesday’s Champions League tie.
Barcelona went into the game with a 4-0 lead but suffered a torrid opening 45 minutes and saw Dortmund pull one back through a Serhou Guirassy penalty.
Kounde admitted Flick had some strong words for his team at the break and says he was disappointed with his team’s performance.
”[Flick said] we had to improve, play better, have more intensity, more concentration,” he said.
“I’m disappointed with the game because I know the team is capable of doing much better; we’ve proven that all season. We have to keep going and not stop doing what we do well most of the time.
“We lacked everything we did well in the first leg: aggression, pressing, concentration, winning duels, closing down passing lanes, a bit of everything.
“We knew it was going to be difficult because they’re playing at home, but we weren’t up to the task, although we had a bit more control in the second half. We made mistakes and oversights, a poor match.”
Yet despite it all, Barcelona are through to the semi-finals and Kounde’s dream of lifting the European Cup remains intact.
“It’s a huge goal we’ve had in mind since the start of the season. Very happy, six years ago, we have to appreciate that, but also disappointed with the performance we played,” he added.
“We dream of winning the Champions League, there’s still one more step to go, which is the semi-final. But we should be happy and proud of the work we’ve done from the start. We’re in all the competitions, so I’m happy.”
Barcelona were joined in the last four of the competition on Tuesday by PSG. The remaining two ties will be resolved on Wednesday with Arsenal 3-0 up on Real Madrid and Inter leading Bayern 2-1.
