On July 25, Marvel will reintroduce one of its oldest and most beloved superhero teams, The Fantastic Four. But this latest MCU movie comes with a built-in twist. This clearly isn’t the same MCU timeline we’ve come to know since 2008, but rather an alternate 1960s with a different history of spaceflight. And within all of that, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is also rebooting one iconic character: The Silver Surfer.

In the just-dropped trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, actress Julia Garner makes her scene-stealing as the Silver Surfer. Garner’s version of the Silver Surfer is Shalla-Bal, which is different from the male Silver Surfer, who is usually known as Norrin Radd.

In addition to the first glimpse of the Silver Surfer, the trailer also confirms that Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) will be pregnant with her and Reed Richards’ (Pedro Pascal) child.

How this plot point will play out over the next several Marvel movies is unclear. All of the primary cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps are confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday next year, which could indicate that they will survive this movie. But what about the fantastic little baby? Who does she grow up to be?

As much as we know about The Fantastic Four: First Steps, there’s still a ton we don’t know about the details of how all this shakes out. The Silver Surfer’s appearance may be just the beginning…
