Julian McMahon is being remembered by his former costars after his death.
Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, Rose McGowan, Ioan Gruffudd and more led tributes for the actor after he died from cancer at age 56 on July 2.
Charmed costar Milano, 52, said she is “heartbroken” in her tribute posted on Friday, July 4, when the news of McMahon’s death was made public.
“Julian McMahon was magic,” she wrote on Instagram. “That smile. That laugh. That talent. That presence. He walked into a room and lit it up — not just with charisma, but with kindness. With mischief. With soulful understanding.”
“We spent years together on Charmed — years of scenes, stories, and so many in-between moments. He made me feel safe as an actor,” Milano continued. “Seen as a woman. He challenged me, teased me, supported me. We were so different, and yet somehow we always understood each other.”

Milano added that McMahon, who played love interest Cole Turner on the show from 2000 to 2005, was “more than my TV husband,” calling him “a dear friend.”
“The kind who checks in … The kind who tells you the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable — but always with love,” she wrote. “Losing him feels unreal. Too soon. Too unfair … 🕊️💔.”
Combs, 51, for her part, shared an Instagram Reel that included photos of the actor with the Charmed cast.
“Your unyielding zest for life and crazy making sense of humor will be sorely missed. The joy and laughter you were the direct cause of will always be remembered,” she wrote in her caption.

“I hope you find our lady friend and dance in those rose petals 🌹,” Combs poignantly added, referring to their late Charmed costar Shannen Doherty, who died from cancer in July 2024.
McGowan, 51, also paid tribute to McMahon, writing in a post on her Instagram Stories, “Oh Julian, you force of brilliance, wild talent and humor. For you, your family and loving fans all over the world, I pray comfort.”
In another, she added, “Charmed family loves you 💔🕊️.”
Gruffudd, 51, who appeared alongside McMahon in the 2005 film Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, called the actor’s death “terribly sad news” in a tribute shared on Instagram.
“Even though we played each other’s nemeses, there was always so much lightness and laughter working together,” he wrote. “Every encounter with him was a joy. It was an honor to be Dr. Richards to his Dr. Doom. My heart goes out to his wife and family. God speed Julian.”
