Kelsey Mitchell joins Caitlin Clark in rare Indiana Fever feat

After the Indiana Fever’s 93-78 Sunday win vs. the Chicago Sky, forward Kelsey Mitchell joins Caitlin Clark in a rare franchise single-game feat, according to the WNBA.

In the Fever’s third victory over the Sky in as many tries and second from the 20,000-seat United Center this season, Mitchell led the team in scoring with a season-high 35 points on 12-for-19 from the floor, 7-for-10 from 3-point territory, and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to go along with six assists, three steals, and two rebounds.

With the impressive performance, Mitchell now joins Clark as only the second player in Indiana Fever franchise history to score 35-plus points, while also recording five-plus assists and five-plus 3-pointers made in a single game.

Clark became the first to accomplish this rare statistical feat on Sept. 15, 2024, when the former Hawkeye erupted for a 35-point performance against the Dallas Wings, where she also recorded eight assists and connected on six 3-pointers. That game was also when Clark broke the WNBA’s rookie scoring record, once held by Seimone Augustus.

Mitchell’s scoring pace on Sunday also set a franchise record as she became the first player to score 35 or more points in under 30 minutes, which she accomplished just under the wire at 29:51.

While the Indiana star guard remains out indefinitely as she attempts to make a full recovery from her latest injury setback, having the scoring abilities of Mitchell at the forefront of the Fever’s attack has certainly paid dividends lately.

Indiana will look to continue their second-half push towards the playoffs when the Fever (14-12) return home to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for a matchup vs. former teammate DeWanna Bonner and the Phoenix Mercury (16-9) on Wednesday, July 30.
