Legendary guitarist returns to Coachella stage after suffering harrowing stroke

In a surprise performance that had the Coachella crowd on their feet, Queen’s legendary guitarist Brian May returned to the stage over the weekend, seven months after suffering a minor stroke that resulted in the paralysis of his left arm.

The 77-year-old musician joined up and coming artist Benson Boone onstage during his set for a version of the Queen hit, “Bohemian Rhapsody” and by all accounts pulled off the performance without a hitch, indicating a miraculous recovery.

The rock legend was elevated onto the Main Stage during the performance, and appeared to be well and upbeat during his guitar solo, with complete control over his arm.

It’s a completely turnaround from how when his medical condition was announced last year.

Before the performance took place, May gave a playful hint about his appearance in an Instagram post.

“Look who I bumped into – on the way to the fabled Palm Springs … Maybe something will happen?!” May wrote and included an image of the back of his head while sharing a private plane with Boone.

Later that same day, May shared a photo of himself and Boone on Instagram, captioned, “Do we look happy?!!! Gonna treasure this moment on the plane with @bensonboone – a truly golden 22 year old prodigy. I’m proud and happy to say we are now officially pals”

A few weeks after the stroke, May took to social media at the time to detail his situation.

“I’m here to bring you first of all some good news – the good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days,” the guitarist shared. “I say this because it was in some doubt… that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago and what they called it was a minor stroke and all of a sudden — out of the blue – I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary,” he added.

May’s most recent health scare comes after the music legend suffered a heart attack back in May 2020.
