CANTON, OHIO — Nobody is saying it was pretty or clean. But Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell found some slivers of encouragement from his backup quarterback play in the team’s 34-7 loss to open the preseason.

Kyle Allen got the start out of the gates against the Los Angeles Chargers and endured a rocky start. Allen threw two interceptions in the first quarter, with an out route getting jumped to his right and a throw to the end zone that didn’t have much of a chance for rookie Isaac TeSlaa.
