Barry “Butch” Wilmore and Sunita Williams are among NASA’s most veteran astronauts, and both are retired Navy captains. Williams was selected as an astronaut in 1998. She flew on the space shuttle in 2006 and then on the Russia Soyuz in 2012. She completed two spacewalks on this mission and now holds the record for total spacewalking time by a female astronaut, 62 hours and 6 minutes, NASA said. Williams, who celebrated her 59th birthday aboard the International Space Station, is from Massachusetts, is married and enjoys time with her dogs.
