A movie that was partially shot in Louisiana is dominating the box office in its opening weekend.”Sinners,” starring Michael B. Jordan and directed by Ryan Coogler, took the top spot this Easter holiday weekend. It was shot around Bogalusa, Donaldsonville, and other areas across southeast Louisiana. If you look closely, you may just notice familiar sights and faces sprinkled throughout the film. There were a lot of locals working as extras and on the production crew. One of the extras in the background of a pivotal scene is Tony Quinn Jr. The McDonogh 35 Senior High School graduate says although his role was small, he felt the support from everyone who saw the movie.”I guess seeing someone you personally know on the big screen is just unreal, no matter what. It still brings me joy when I see other upcoming actors make screen, so I can only imagine how family and friends feel,” Quinn said. “Doesn’t have to be big at all, could be a split-second camera pan or a shot of the back of your head.”He says filming was a seven-month experience and says Coogler’s way of shooting is very different from other films he’s been a part of.Another local who worked on the film was Brandon Battiste. He is also a McDonogh 35 Senior High School graduate and was a lighting technician on the film.”It feels like an honor to be a part of a movie of this magnitude and to represent my city and my union in a magnificent way. The feedback has been great and almost feels overwhelming to be a part of this great piece of art,” Battiste said.”Sinners” is now estimated for a $45.6 million opening weekend. There’s another treat for New Orleans movie lovers. The movie can also be viewed in non-IMAX 70mm at the Prytania Theatre on Prytania Street.
