- Soniyah Reed scored 24 and Aniya Gourdine added 17 to lead Southern to a 68-56 win over UC San Diego in Wednesday’s NCAA women’s tournament First Four matchup. It’s the first NCAA tournament win in program history.
- UC San Diego chiseled away at the Jaguars’ lead in the second half behind sharpshooting from Sumayah Sugapong and Parker Montgomery. But the deficit was too large to overcome. Sugapong finished with 19 points, while Montgomery scored 15.
- Southern next faces No. 1 seed UCLA on the Bruins’ home floor on Friday.

- UC San Diego isn’t finished just yet. Sabrina Ma nailed a 3-pointer after a timeout, cutting Southern’s lead to 62-54 with 1:12 remaining.
