Marvel Studios is bringing back a handful of familiar faces for Avengers: Doomsday, including a former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model.
On Wednesday, Marvel Studios shared a livestream across its social media platforms. The studio has been releasing each cast member for Avengers: Doomsday one by one.
Avengers: Doomsday will feature countless actors and actresses who have appeared in previous Marvel films, including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie and Florence Pugh. Academy Award winner Robert Downey Jr. will also return, but not as Iron Man. He’ll play the role of Marvel villain Doctor Doom.
One of the biggest surprises from Wednesday’s livestream is that Rebecca Romijn will return for her first Marvel film since X-Men: The Last Stand. She’ll reprise her role as Mystique.
Romijn, 62, has appeared in six separate issues of SI Swimsuit over the course of her career. Her last appearance in SI Swimsuit came in 2007. She received her breakthrough role as Mystique in the 2000 film X-Men.
Romijn hasn’t appeared in a film since Endangered Species in 2021. She has made regular appearances on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds since then.
Marvel Studios isn’t just bringing back Romijn from the original X-Men trilogy. Patrick Stewart will return as Professor X, Ian McKellan will return as Magneto, and James Marsden will return as Cyclops.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Marvel is hoping to have its first $2 billion film since Avengers: Endgame in 2019. This blockbuster film will set up Avengers: Secret Wars, which will release on May 7, 2007.
