Massive Russia earthquake recorded on Kansas seismic monitor

An 8.8 earthquake that has triggered tsunami warnings for Alaska and Hawaii was detected on a seismograph in Kansas.The earthquake struck the eastern coast of Russia, and early indications suggest it is one of the strongest ever recorded.The Kansas Geological Survey’s seismograph in Sedgwick County picked up the quake.It is believed to be the strongest earthquake since March 2011, when a 9.0 earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Japan.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —An 8.8 earthquake that has triggered tsunami warnings for Alaska and Hawaii was detected on a seismograph in Kansas.

The earthquake struck the eastern coast of Russia, and early indications suggest it is one of the strongest ever recorded.

The Kansas Geological Survey’s seismograph in Sedgwick County picked up the quake.

It is believed to be the strongest earthquake since March 2011, when a 9.0 earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Japan.
