Meet Aries, the Zodiac’s fierce leader: The sign’s personality traits, dates

Aries marks the start of the Zodiac cycle, beginning the yearly tenure of 12 distinct signs. Symbolized by the ram, Aries is a fire sign, known for its strong persona.

Courageous, strong-willed and carefree − those born under Aries are often seen as natural leaders. Their fierce personality can, however, be viewed as impatient and obstinate.

Astrologer Cleo Neptune explores the sign’s key traits and approach to relationships, career and more.

Aries dates

Aries personality, traits

Of Aries’ personality, Neptune says, “they want to lead.” “It’s kind of like this raw childlike energy of ‘Let’s do it.'”

Aries have no inhibitions and are eager to get tasks done. “I would also say that their drive is unmatched,” Neptune adds.

This quality, however, can be framed as impatience. Aries often need to take matters into their own hands. “I haven’t met a patient Aries in my life,” Neptune jokes.

Aries are carefree in ways though, he adds.

“They can be a little bit naive because they jump into things head first and the planning is not always there, but they definitely get things done,” Neptune says.

They’re also known to help others, showcasing quick reaction times and keen instincts.

In the workplace, Aries are usually the first to volunteer for a task, Neptune says. They may even feel obligated to get things done without asking for help.

“They definitely can be a little impatient with their coworkers,” Neptune expands. If a group project is assigned, an Aries may take it upon themselves to finish it on their own.

Aries are consistent and reliable, but sometimes bite off more than they can chew, he adds.

Aries compatibility

An Aries’ relationship style is “surprisingly fair and patient,” Neptune says. Similar to Libras, Aries have a desire for equality and balance in a relationship.

“Very much tit for tat,” Neptune reveals, “doing what’s fair, balancing out their partners or their friendships and being advocates for their friends.”

But in trying to equalize their relationships, an Aries might end up overcompensating if their partner isn’t reciprocating, he adds.

Aries is compatible with the other fire signs: Leo and Sagittarius. But they also pair well with air signs: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.

Strengths

Aries are a very strong-willed sign, Neptune says. They are the type to always step in if something is wrong.

“Aries are very much concerned with fairness in motivation and action,” he explains. Aries are not one to stand idly by when someone is being bullied or targeted.

Aries’ defensive nature makes them fierce allies and reliable coworkers.

Weaknesses

Aries can be somewhat headstrong. Their desire to lead and finish quickly can be perceived as controlling, Neptune explains.

Aries can also be a bit naive, he says. Their carefree attitude can lead to a lack of boundaries.

Aries are prone to spread themselves thin by overcommitting to work projects or by overcompensating in relationships.
