Back in the day, the Spice Girls were a package deal — touring the world, crashing award shows, and finishing each other’s soundbites. So when Mel B finally walked down the aisle, fans clocked the headcount faster than you can shout “Girl Power.”
Spoiler: the reunion tally stopped at one.
On Saturday, July 5, 50-year-old Scary Spice (real name Melanie Brown) married longtime partner Rory McPhee, in the crypt of London’s historic St. Paul’s Cathedral — the same church Princess Diana married Prince Charles (now King Charles III) in 1981. Mel B earned the rare venue privilege after being awarded an MBE in 2022 for her advocacy work against domestic abuse.
While Emma Bunton (a.k.a. Baby Spice) showed up with her husband Jade Jones and their 17-year-old son Beau, the rest of the former girl group was noticeably absent. Victoria Beckham (a.k.a Posh Spice), Mel C (a.k.a. Sporty Spice), and Geri Halliwell (a.k.a. Ginger Spice) were all no-shows.
Still, Beckham, 51, sent her love online. “Congratulations @officialmelb and @rorymcphee on your special day!” the fashion icon wrote on her Instagram Story alongside a throwback Spice Girls video. “I couldn’t be more excited for you both and wish you a lifetime of happiness!” She also added a solo photo of the two of them, captioned, “Sending you love @officialmelb ❤️ @rorymephee is a very lucky man!”
According to GB News (a UK-based broadcast news outlet), Beckham was reportedly “abroad and unable to attend” the nuptials, but there appears to be no drama, just a scheduling miss.
It’s not clear why Mel C (real name Melanie Chisholm) and Halliwell, 52, didn’t attend the wedding, since no official reasons have been shared.
But there’s a possible clue when it comes to Mel C, 51. Just three days before the ceremony, she posted on Instagram about her time at Glastonbury Festival, which took place from June 25 to June 29, shortly before Mel B’s nuptials.
“Oh @glastofest you did it again ❤️ what a weekend!” she wrote. “Saw loads brilliant music, caught up with so many friends and introduced my daughter to the greatest festival on Earth. Thank you @emily_eavis it was truly magical 🥰”
That suggests she may have still been wrapping up her trip or traveling back, rather than skipping the wedding for any personal reason.
As for Halliwell, her absence has stirred more speculation. Multiple outlets have pointed to lingering tension between her and the newlywed stemming from a 2019 interview, where Mel B revealed the two once had a brief romantic encounter.
At the time, Halliwell publicly denied the claim, and sources suggested she felt blindsided. There hasn’t been a public apology, and while the group has maintained a united front in interviews — and even reunited at Beckham’s 50th birthday party last year — fans have long speculated that things never fully smoothed over behind the scenes.
Despite the missing Spice Girls, the wedding still drew a crowd. In addition to Bunton, 49, guests included Cara Delevingne, Daisy Lowe, Katherine Ryan, Angellica Bell, and Gaby Roslin. Former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller was also in attendance.
