MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup Semifinals pits defending champions Mexico against Honduras on Wednesday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, USA.
The occasion presents the second-ever matchup between the two nations in the Gold Cup Semifinals, with Mexico coming out on top 2-nil after extra time in 2011.
Mexico and Honduras meet again after squaring off in the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals last November, with Mexico winning the series 4-2 on aggregate.
Mexico will continue its title defense after securing a 2-nil win against Saudi Arabia in the Quarterfinals with a goal from Alexis Vega and an own goal of Abdullah Madu.
El Tricolor has advanced in 11 of their 14 previous Gold Cup Semifinals appearances, including reaching the final and winning the title in two of the past three editions (2019 and 2023).
The all-time leaders in the tournament with nine trophies, Mexico has boasted a stout defense in the 2025 edition with two goals allowed and three clean sheets in four games.
Honduras is set for a sixth Semifinals appearance after edging out Panama 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation. Anthony Lozano struck for the Central Americans in the 82’ to equalize and send the match to the penalty shoot-out.
Los Catrachos are in search of advancing to the Gold Cup Final for the second time. The Central American’s reached the Final in the inaugural edition, losing on penalties for a runners-up finish. Its second best-finishes came as third place in 2005 and 2009, the latter coached by current manager Reinaldo Rueda.
