MLB trade deadline: What Yankees, Mets, Phillies, other contenders added, gave up

NEW YORK — As always, contenders have been loading up for the stretch run with sellers dumping veterans for prospects on Thursday, baseball’s trade-deadline day.

The deadline is 6 p.m., ET.

While the Yankees continue their pursuit of pitching with rumors they’re favorites to acquire Pirates closer David Bednar, the Mariners added the biggest available bat on Thursday morning by completing a deal with the Diamondbacks for All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suarez, who is first in the National League with 36 homers and first with 87 RBI.

Here is what all the contenders have done so far:

AMERICAN LEAGUE

NEW YORK YANKEES (59-49)

Standings: Second in AL East, 4 games behind first-place Blue Jays; 1st in AL wild-card standings.
