Morgan Wallen reportedly declined to participate in pre-recorded SNL skit

Morgan Wallen behaved in an off-putting way in public, which seems to be how most of his public outings go. The most recent example was on live national television, on a show that is known for celebrities and musicians doing weird and off-putting things. But now, contradicting reports offer some insight into how weird and off-putting Wallen really was during his time at 30 Rockefeller Plaza for Saturday Night Live

The latest comes from Variety, which suggests that Wallen wasn’t super into the SNL spirit even before his abrupt walk-off during the episode’s good nights. A source for the trade claimed that a part was written for Wallen in the week’s musical comedy spot, which was ultimately handed to Joe Jonas after the country musician declined to participate.

This doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, truth be told. It is weird to take a gig on a sketch comedy show and seem uninterested in being there (especially after his first try wasn’t exactly fruitful) but it seems within a musical guest’s rights not to participate in a sketch, even if he did last time. What is stranger is that Variety‘s report comes after different reports yesterday which attempted to smooth the whole thing over. One source from Wallen’s camp told the trade that he had a good time and that his gesture wasn’t intended as a snub. TMZ also reported yesterday that a source from NBC said the show would have Wallen back anytime and that there was no tension between him and the cast.

At least Kenan Thompson actually put a named statement about the incident on the record. Thompson didn’t speak about any specific issues on set, though he was put off by Wallen’s post-exit Instagram post depicting a jet with the caption “Get me to God’s country.” “The ‘God’s country’ of it all is strange because it’s like, what are you trying to say? You trying to say that we are not in God’s country? We’re not all in God’s country? We’re not all under God’s umbrella? That’s not necessarily my favorite,” he told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published yesterday. However, he downplayed the awkwardness of the exit. “You see somebody before you get a chance to say hi or say good job or anything like that, they just dipping,” he said. “I thought maybe he had to go to the potty or something.” True, maybe he just had to go to the potty or something.
