Residents scrambled desperately through collapsed buildings Sunday searching for survivors as aftershocks rattled the devastated city of Mandalay, two days after a massive earthquake killed more than 1,600 people in Myanmar and at least 11 in neighbouring Thailand.The initial 7.7-magnitude quake struck near the central Myanmar city of Mandalay early Friday afternoon, followed minutes later by a 6.7-magnitude aftershock.

Myanmar earthquake live updates: The UK pledged £10 million ($12.9 million) in humanitarian aid for Myanmar on Saturday after an earthquake killed more than 1,600 people and caused widespread damage in the war-torn country.”This UK funding will increase support in the hardest hit areas of the earthquake and geared towards food and water supplies, medicine, and shelter,” the UK foreign office said in a statement.”UK-funded local partners are already mobilising a humanitarian response on the ground,” said development minister Jennifer Chapman.”I offer my deepest sympathies to the people of Myanmar after this tragic event,” Chapman added.

Myanmar earthquake live updates: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed that an Israeli professional rescue and aid team be sent to Thailand to help with the aftermath of the earthquake there.The team will depart Israel tonight at 10:30 PM and will include 21 professionals. It will assist in population-based and engineering rescue, and will operate until the last trapped person is rescued.
