The Green Bay Packers made some moves as free agency officially began this week. The team started the first day of the league year by signing San Francisco 49ers G Aaron Banks to a 4-year $77 million contract. Later that afternoon the Packers agreed to terms with Las Vegas Raiders CB Nate Hobbs on a multi-year deal.
NFL Insider Josina Anderson posted that she spoke to Hobbs on the phone about signing a 4-year, $48 million deal to play in Green Bay and shared a direct quote from the 2021 fifth-round draft pick about his feelings on heading to the NFC North:
I’m ecstatic. It has not sunk in yet. I’m still dumbfounded by the opportunity, and I am ready to get to work. Being with the Raiders in that division and facing those quarterbacks, I feel like I’m ready for anything (in the NFC North) and I am going in with a lot of confidence. It prepared me for this.
The 25-year-old reunites with CB Keisean Nixon, RB Josh Jacobs, and Assistant Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator Rich Bisaccia who were all part of the Raiders organization when Hobbs was drafted.
Hobbs’ contract includes $16 million guaranteed in the form of a signing bonus and the opportunity to make up to $51 million with incentives. Spotrac estimates it to be a $6.2 million total cap hit in 2025, which counts for 2.2% of the cap for the upcoming season.
