National Weather Service rates Lake City tornado as EF-3

LAKE CITY, Ark. – The National Weather Service has surveyed a devastating tornado that ripped through a northeast Arkansas community Wednesday night.

NWS officials said the tornado that tore through the Bay and Lake City area was rated an EF-3.

The Craighead County sheriff confirmed Thursday that at least eight people were injured and 57 structures were damaged as a result of the Wednesday night storms.

A tornado with a rating of 3 on the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale has wind speeds of 136 miles per hour to 165 miles per hour. Officials said this tornado had 150 mph winds.

The Arkansas Storm Team has issued an Alert Day for Thursday as storms have a possibility of turning severe during the afternoon and evening hours.
