The NCAA women’s basketball tournament is looking just as chalky as the men’s bracket, as eight more teams will advance to the Sweet 16 round on March Madness on Monday.
Paige Bueckers and JuJu Watkins will be in action tonight, and should Bueckers’ Connecticut Huskies get by South Dakota State, all 16 teams in the regional stage of the women’s bracket will be from Power-Five leagues.
On Sunday, No. 1 seeds South Carolina and UCLA were tested in the first half against Indiana and Richmond, respectively, before creating some separation in the third quarter.
Former Syracuse forward Alyssa Latham finished with two points (1-for-1 from the field), four rebounds, an assist, steal and block over 13 minutes during Tennessee’s 82-67 victory against Ohio State.
Eboni Walker, another ex-Syracuse player, was scoreless (0-for-1 from the field) in 19 minutes for the Buckeyes.
Former Syracuse women’s basketball coach Quentin Hillsman will be on the bench in the Sweet 16. Hillsman is an assistant coach at Ole Miss.
Monday’s action gets underway with No. 2 North Carolina State and No. 7 Michigan State tipping off at noon on ESPN.
