LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A sudden and severe windstorm swept through the Las Vegas Valley, causing significant power outages affecting thousands of residents.

As of 7 p.m. on Tuesday, approximately 272 outages were reported, impacting 20,485 customers, according to NV Energy.

The outages were primarily caused by severe winds, with gusts reaching up to 70 miles per hour in some areas, surpassing initial forecasts.

NV Energy crews are actively working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

The company has called in additional crews to assist with troubleshooting and repairs.

The company reported that nearly 50 poles have been damaged by the wind and will need replacement.
