Matthew Golden is embracing his new title as a Green Bay Packer, cheese and all.
The Texas Longhorn was by drafted by the Packers in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night. Before Golden, the Packers had not selected a wide receiver as a first-round draft pick since 2002.
It seems Golden is more than ready to don the green and gold — in fact, he already looked the part coming out of the green room Thursday in a black-and-gold patterned suit and a giant “G” pendant necklace.

Afterward, Golden took a moment to snap a selfie with cheering Packers fans, according to an X post from the NFL.

On Friday afternoon, Golden also shared a round of photos on Instagram from draft night, writing “Overly Blessed” in the caption. In one photo, Golden is grinning and hugging his grandmother as the two pose for a selfie.
Hours before the draft kicked off Thursday, Golden told the Journal Sentinel the first thing he hoped to buy if drafted was a house for his grandmother.
“We lost our property a couple years ago and it’s always been a dream of mine to get that house back,” he said.
And if there was any doubt left about how Golden was feeling about his new home, he couldn’t have made it more clear in an X post Friday morning: three cheese emojis, which said it all for Packers fans.
