NFL Draft 2025, Round 1 recap: Seahawks waste no time addressing offensive line

The Seattle Seahawks may have had offers to trade down, but the final decision on Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft was to stick and pick at No. 18. Any worries that Seattle wouldn’t address the offensive line were erased when John Schneider selected North Dakota State’s Grey Zabel. He’s listed as a guard by the Seahawks, so he’s the highest-drafted guard for Seattle since a fella named Steve Hutchinson back in 2001. I’d say he worked out pretty well and that things would look a lot different if ‘Poison Pill’ contracts weren’t a thing.

It was a pretty tame night in Green Bay. We had just four trades in total, although one led to the Jacksonville Jaguars getting Travis Hunter at No. 2 overall, while another saw the Los Angeles Rams pick up an extra 2026 first-rounder courtesy of the Atlanta Falcons.

Only two quarterbacks were taken in Round 1, one of whom became a late entrant into Thursday consideration. Everyone knew Cam Ward would be the No. 1 overall pick of the Tennessee Titans, but it was Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss who was selected at No. 25 by the New York Giants after they traded back into the first. The wait continues for Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.

Lastly, Ashton Jeanty is a Las Vegas Raider. Never change, Pete Carroll. Never change.
