The Chicago Bears have made a big move on the defensive line agreeing to terms with defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo, as first reported by the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs.
It’s a three-year, $48 million deal with $32 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.
While the offensive line has been the focal point for general manager Ryan Poles this offseason — including the expected signing of center Drew Dalman and trades for guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson — the defensive line was also a big need.
Chicago’s defensive line was in desperate need of an edge rusher opposite Montez Sweat, and they appear to have found their guy in Odeyingbo, who’s a young, ascending player for new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.
In 61 career games, including 19 starts, Odeyingbo has totaled 106 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks and five forced fumbles with the Indianapolis Colts. He also brings versatility to the defensive line, as he can line up off the edge or along the interior.
