GREEN BAY (WLUK) — The poor air quality that has settled over Wisconsin is unavoidable, as the entire state is experiencing some of the worst air quality in the country on Thursday.
“It hasn’t bothered me, but you can see it, all the way up here, it was real cloudy, smoky, you see it,” says George and Judy Worden of Oshkosh, who were in Green Bay for Packers training camp.
The hazy air from Canadian wildfires is forcing many to stay home and wish for clearer days
On Facebook, Theresa B. telling FOX 11, “I wanna get out of my house, but can’t.”
With an air quality index in the ‘unhealthy’ red range, with PM2.5 levels nearly reaching 200, Wisconsin DNR officials are encouraging people to limit time outside.
Lenny R. adds on Facebook: “Finally can open windows because it’s cooler and low humidity, and it’s like sitting by a campfire, with smoke blowing in your face.”
Brianna K says, as someone with asthma, it’s hard for her to breathe outdoors.
But that isn’t the case for everyone.
“I went out running today, and it’s a little bit harder but you know, it didn’t stop me from going out,” says Marianne Mainhardt of Peshtigo, who is visiting for Packers training camp.
“I was born with good genes and healthy lungs, I know that they measure the air quality, but it never really affects what I’m doing during the day,” adds Jim Blean of Green Bay, who was enjoying the cooler temperatures at Voyaguer Park in De Pere.
“It’s there, and I especially saw it in the moon last night, it was completely orange, but it wasn’t enough to stop us from seeing the Packers training camp today,” says Gayle Billman of Neenah.
For some Packers players, it didn’t bother them, either.
“I could smell it in the morning, that’s the only time I really, like, paid attention to it, during practice I felt like a new man, honestly, I felt good,” says Packers safety Evan Williams after Thursday’s training camp practice.
Wisconsin DNR air management officials and medical professionals advise people to monitor the air quality consistently, especially if you have outdoor activities planned.
