ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ Hints And Answers For Thursday, April 3By Kris HoltHappy Friday, gang! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week, but it’s time to turn our attention to the weekend.

Whatever plans you have in store, try to make the most of whatever free time you have. If for you that means hiking, spending quality time with loved ones, chilling out with a movie or video game, or something else entirely, do that! It’s important to spend time doing things we enjoy. As I often have to remind myself, we should work to live, not live to work.

Before we begin, I’ve set up a discussion group for NYT Connections and this column on Discord. We have a great little community over there and we chat about more than NYT games. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot.

It’s also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare(!) occasions that I mess something up since I don’t look at the comments or Twitter much.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Friday, April 4, are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT website or Games app.

You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication’s Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.

Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my hints via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.

Need some extra help?

Be warned: we’re starting to get into spoiler territory.

  • Yellow group — what’s leftover
  • Green group — car trip
  • Blue group — baseball venues
  • Purple group — companies with “E” removed

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are…

  • Yellow group — what’s leftover (BALANCE, DIFFERENCE, REMAINDER, REST)
  • Green group — car trip (CRUISE, DRIVE, RIDE, SPIN)
  • Blue group — baseball venues (DIAMOND, FIELD, PARK, STADIUM)
  • Purple group — companies with “E” removed (BAY, HARMONY, INK, TRADE)

No perfect game, but that’s my 38th win in a row. Can I make it all the way to 50? 100??? Here’s how I fared:

HARMONY and BALANCE seemed like an obvious red herring, so I steered clear of those (pun intended). I don’t drive so I don’t know toooo much about cars. Still, I thought DRIVE, PARK, CRUISE and RIDE would form a group. But I was one away there. Shoot. I assumed that RIDE was the odd one out. SPIN might make sense, I figured, but I also thought it might be best to leave that group for a bit and come back to it.

DIAMOND and PARK then caught my attention. Since I figured DIAMOND was a clear baseball reference, the rest of the blues fell into place. That freed up the rest of the greens which did, in fact, go together with SPIN.

At that point, the yellows stood out since they’re all synonyms. That meant I had to go for the purple group first.

I didn’t spot the connection there, actually. I often forget that E Ink is a trademark and that epaper or e-paper is the more generic term.

I also forget that eHarmony is still around, while E*Trade is not something I ever use at all. At least I look up things on eBay once in a while out of curiosity.

Still, as someone who writes about tech news got a living, I probably should have figured that group out.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Saturday’s game if you need them.

P.S. One of my favorite games from last year is Helldivers 2, a co-operative shooter that sees players and their buds (or total strangers) trying to protect Super Earth by battling aliens and robots. It’s very much like Starship Troopers in terms of its themes and tone, and it’s a whole lot of ridiculously good fun.

Among the best aspects of the game is its heroic, orchestral (and somewhat militaristic) main theme by Wilbert Roget II that helps make what you’re doing feel huge and important. It’s a track I often listen to when I’m trying to finish something quickly to meet a deadline (i.e. right now). The whole soundtrack is pretty great, but it’s the main theme I keep returning to whenever I need a burst of energy or have the urge to spread democracy 🫡 :

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
