The Orioles will lose Colton Cowser for an extended period of time after the outfielder suffered a fractured thumb.The second-year outfielder is coming off a good rookie season, where he finished second for the American League Rookie of the Year Award. The 25-year-old hurt his thumb while sliding into first base over the weekend in the opening series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Cowser was batting in the leadoff spot for the Orioles, but was struggling going only 2-for-16 in the first four games. He was placed on the 10-day injured list and will be out at least until April 9, and is considered day-to-day.The Orioles recalled Dylan Carlson to the majors to replace Cowser. He will wear No. 15 for the team and can play all the outfield positions. The five-year veteran is a .237 career hitter and hit 18 home runs back in 2021.In other injury news, the Orioles also placed pitcher Albert Suarez on the 15-day Injured List with right shoulder inflammation. He will be eligible to return on April 6 and the Orioles selected the contract of pitcher Matt Bowman from triple-A to replace him.
