Alex Ovechkin stands just one goal away from history with another opportunity to become the NHL’s all-time goals record holder.

On Friday night, the Capitals captain scored goal No. 893 in the first period and followed it up with No. 894 in the third. That second goal was good to tie Ovechkin with the former sole record-holder, Wayne Gretzky.

Of course, No. 894 was scored from his “office,” the left face-off circle.

This afternoon against the New York Islanders, he’ll have another shot to notch his 895th career goal — the one that will break the record — though it wouldn’t be in front of a home crowd.

Gretzky and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman were in attendance at Friday’s game, and it’s expected they’ll both be there again today to potentially witness history.

  • Date: April 6
  • Time: 12:30 p.m. ET

History could be made today; here’s how to tune in.

The Capitals are back in action today, April 6, against the New York Islanders. Puck drop at UBS Arena in Elmont is set for 12:30 p.m. ET.

If you don’t have cable, the best way to stream today’s Capitals game for free is to use a live TV streaming service with a free trial.

One we recommend is DIRECTV Stream, which offers a five-day free trial for new subscribers. When the trial is over, you’ll pay $86.99/month for the Entertainment plan and gain access to over 90 live channels including TNT.

Hulu + Live TV is another excellent option with a three-day free trial.

Another great option, albeit with no free trial, is the Sling TV Orange plan. You’ll still get 50% off your first month of the base plan, bringing the total down to $23 for the first month ($45.99/month after).

You can also watch today’s game by subscribing to Max. Max includes live sports from TNT with both ad-free splans, which start at $16.99/month.
