Garrett Crochet previously said he wasn’t interested in negotiating a potential contract extension once the Red Sox regular season started March 27.
Well, that proved not to be the case.
Crochet and Boston reportedly agreed on a six-year, $170 million contract Monday night, less than 48 hours before his second scheduled start with the Red Sox. The star left-hander will make a bit of history when he signs on the dotted line, as it will mark the most expensive deal ever given to a pitcher with four years of MLB service or less.
As you can imagine, the Fenway Faithful was elated when Craig Breslow and company reportedly made a long-term commitment to Crochet, who Boston acquired in exchange for four prospects over the offseason. You can check out a slew of social media reactions to the news by clicking the link here.
With an uncertain future no longer in the back of his mind, Crochet now can entirely focus on meeting the expectations that come with being the Red Sox’s ace. After a solid debut last Thursday, Crochet is set to toe the rubber again Wednesday evening at Camden Yards.
