Arsenal’s search for a winger to supplement their attacking options has reportedly seen them reach an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.
According to the Athletic (£), Madueke has given his OK for a move to be pursued and Arsenal are now considering approaching Chelsea to discuss a fee. Arsenal’s only signing of the summer so far also came from west London, with the Gunners activating a £5m release clause to sign goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The 23-year-old scored seven goals and provided three assists in the Premier League last season and is capable of playing on both flanks.
Arsenal and Chelsea clearly share an amicable enough relationship when it comes to transfer talks, with Arsenal frequently returning to Stamford Bridge for players in recent seasons. Raheem Sterling’s loan deal was thrashed out on deadline day last summer and Arsenal previously went to Chelsea to sign Kai Havertz and Jorginho. Prior to those additions, Willian (free transfer) and David Luiz also swapped Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium.
Chelsea paid a reported £29m to sign the winger, who has seven England caps, from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023. Madueke had joined the Dutch club as a teenager after spells in the academies of Crystal Palace and Tottenham.
With personal terms already agreed, it is hard to imagine Arsenal won’t press on and hold talks with Chelsea, with the Gunners presumably aware of what might be demanded to sign the winger. Madueke is currently in the US with Chelsea as they compete at the Club World Cup.
What this move would mean for links to other attack-minded players — including the likes of Eberechi Eze, Rodrygo, Morgan Rogers, and Anthony Gordon — remains to be seen.
