Rhea Seehorn’s Better Call Saul Replacement Show Gets an Exciting First Look

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul might be over, but two iconic names from the franchise are reuniting for a new series coming to Apple TV+. While many questions remain about the show, the streamer has offered a new tease with an official first look.

Previously, it was announced that Better Call Saul fan favorite Rhea Seehorn, known for her role as Kim Wexler, was set to star in a new series from Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad (and co-creator of Better Call Saul). On the official X account for Apple TV+, an image was shared on Tuesday with the curious caption, “Happiness is Contagious.” With a bright yellow background, the image showcases a smiley face being drawn with a cotton swab. Check out the post below.

While the series will reunite Seehorn and Gilligan, it is important to note that it is not a part of the Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul universe. Seehorn will be playing an original character, though very little has been revealed about the plot. The series was first announced in 2022, and Apple TV+ has already ordered two seasons, seeing high potential in its future. It’s also known to be a “fun, mild sci-fi series,” but the only real clue that has been given about the story at this point is the brand-new tease with the smiley face.

“I’m excited for audiences to see Rhea play a very different character than the character she played on Better Call Saul,” Gilliang previously said about the project, via Deadline. “She plays someone who’s trying very hard to be good. She’s a bit of a damaged hero, but she’s a hero nonetheless. And it’s just a pleasure to work with her because she’s just the best, and she is so sweet and kind and talented. I can’t say enough good about her.”

Beyond Seehorn and Gilligan, the new show will have something else in common with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. It is also set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the the same city where Kim Wexler and Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) practiced law alongside one another for many years.

Rhea Seehorn Leads the Cast of the New Series

Seehorn’s Kim Wexler did not appear in Breaking Bad, but she nevertheless became one of the franchise’s most beloved characters over the course of the prequel series. Seehorn shined in the role for all six seasons, garnering a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for the final season. Potentially, she’ll get another chance at Emmy gold if the Apple TV+ series lives up to expectations.

A premiere date has not yet been set for the untitled series, but Better Call Saul is streaming on Netflix.
