The short answer is no – your romantic pursuits (or lack thereof) have no impact whatsoever on tangible character dynamics, narrative beats, nor does it affect the ending in any way. It’s purely a choice you can choose to lean into in your playthrough if you wish, with some minor alterations to character dialogue as you build your Relationship Levels. There’s no downside to not engaging in romance at all!

Keep in mind that pursuing romance with Sciel will lock you out of romance with Lune. Don’t worry, you can still increase your relationship level with Sciel regardless!

As you attempt to go from Relationship Level 3 to 4 with Sciel at your Camp, you’ll uncover a little more of her backstory. She’ll then ask if you’re interested in an “adventure”. As Verso connects the dots as to her intimate request, you’ll have a choice:

• Do you even need to ask?
• Um, actually I’m a bit sleepy.

If you wish to pursue a romantic escapade with Sciel, then select “Do you even need to ask?”. If not, select “Um, actually I’m a bit sleepy”; this is also the choice you want to make if you wish to keep a romantic path open for Lune later on. Regardless of your choice, your Relationship Level with Sciel will increase to Level 4.

Later in the game, as you attempt to go from Relationship Level 5 to 6, you’ll engage in a swimming lesson with Sciel. If you previously accepted her offer, at the end of the conversation she’ll suggest one more passionate night before they call things off. You have two options:

• Let’s celebrate.
• I don’t think that’s a good idea. For me.

If you select “Let’s celebrate.”, then you’ll have a night of passion and that’ll mark the end of your fling. Selecting “I don’t think that’s a good idea. For me.” will call things off there and then, also marking the end of the fling. Regardless of your choice, your Relationship Level with Sciel will increase to Level 6.
