The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Ohio State’s Will Howard with the No. 185th pick in the sixth round Saturday, adding a quarterback to their depth chart while they continue to wait on an answer from Aaron Rodgers.

Steelers owner and president Art Rooney II said Friday the team “may get word soon” on Rodgers, who is a free agent for the first time after being released by the New York Jets earlier this offseason.

Howard led Ohio State to 14 victories and a national championship last season in his only season with the Buckeyes. He told ESPN’s Elizabeth Merrill that he believed he was the best quarterback eligible to be selected in this year’s draft.

He finished second to Shedeur Sanders last season with a 73% completion percentage while throwing for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Howard spent his first four seasons in college football with Kansas State, with his best season for the Wildcats coming in 2023 when he passed for 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

For his career, he passed for 9,795 yards, 83 touchdowns and 35 interceptions and completed 63.8% of his pass attempts.
