Stepgrandson of Dog the Bounty Hunter killed in accidental shooting in Florida, reports say

WASHINGTON — The 13-year-old stepgrandson of Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman was fatally shot in an accident by the reality show star’s stepson, according to multiple media outlets.

TMZ was the first to report the death of Anthony Zecca. The boy’s father, Gregory Zecca, is the stepson of Duane Chapman, who rose to fame through the A&E show dedicated to his exploits as a bounty hunter in the U.S.

The teenager was killed in an accidental shooting at an apartment in Naples, Florida on Saturday, TMZ reported. The celebrity-focused outlet cited people close to the situation, saying that Gregory Zecca accidentally shot his son in a “freak accident.”

In a statement to TMZ, Chapman and his wife, Francie asked for privacy as the family deals with the tragedy.

“We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony,” the couple said in their statement.

People Magazine confirmed the death, saying the Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call around 8 p.m. on July 19. The sheriff’s office called the death an “isolated incident” and have not made any arrests, as of Monday afternoon.

In a statement released to People, the sheriff’s office said they are “conducting a thorough investigation looking into all the elements of the incident.”

Gregory Zecca is Francie’s son from a previous marriage. Her and Chapman married in 2021 after both were widowed.

Chapman became a household name when he captured Max Factor heir Andrew Luster in 2003, and was given his own series, Dog the Bounty Hunter, in 2004. In that show and a number of spin-offs, camera crews captured Chapman and his associates tracking down fugitives as bail bondsmen.
