Phoenix Suns +7.5 over Denver Nuggets (-110)
After their impressive 23-point comeback win over the Clippers on Tuesday, it’s quite clear that the Phoenix Suns have not yet given up on the idea of making the play-in tournament this season. The 10th-seeded Mavs are just 2.5 games ahead and after Kyrie Irving’a season-ending injury, you have to like the Suns’ chances of overtaking Dallas over the course of these final 20 games. Their quest continues on Friday in Denver against a team they beat 110-100 on Christmas Day.
Denver did win the other 2 meetings, but their recent form has been up and down over the past 5 games with 3 wins and 2 losses. There is also news that Nikola Jokic has an ankle issue which could keep him out of this game, and without the 3-time MVP, the Nuggets are just 2-4 SU on the season. Aaron Gordon is also in doubt with his ankle injury and he has not played since the game in Milwaukee over a week ago. Denver is only 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games, so if there was ever a time for the Suns to get a big win at Ball Arena, it’s tonight. I’ll take a slightly safer approach here and back them to cover as 7.5-point underdogs to kickstart our Suns vs Nuggets Same Game Parlay.
Kevin Durant to score 25+ points (-120)
Scoring 34 points to lead a 23-point comeback late in the game says a lot about Kevin Durant’s character. Even at the age of 36, he is still at the top of his game from a scoring perspective, but the hunger to win hasn’t faded one bit. The Suns’ best player is averaging 26.6 points per game in his last 10 outings on 54% from the field and almost 40% from three, staying consistent and in line with his season averages. It goes without saying that without a huge KD game here, the Suns’ chances of getting a result won’t be high, and we’ve seen the Nuggets struggling to contain him in recent head-to-head meetings.
KD averages 29.3 points per game in the last 10 against Denver and has cleared this line 7 times during that stretch. Not only that, but he’s also scored 30+ in 2 of his last 3 visits to Ball Arena and with Gordon out the Nuggets don’t have a proper replacement to throw at Durant here. Opposing small forwards have had their way with the Nuggets defense this season, as Denver allows the most points per game to SFs in the NBA. Look for a big scoring performance from Durant tonight.
Jamal Murray to score 20+ points (-265)
If the rumors are true and Nikola Jokic is forced to miss Friday’s game, then it’ll be up to Jamal Murray to once again show us why the Nuggets gave him that huge contract extension in the offseason. He’s been in a good rhythm over the last 10 games, averaging 27.2 points per game. The highlight of this run was a 55-point explosion against the Blazers a few weeks back and Murray has cleared this line with ease in 4 consecutive games.
Murray’s matchups with Devin Booker are always fun to watch, and he has had the upper hand in quite a few of those, especially in the 2023 playoffs. Over the past 10 meetings with the Suns, Murray is at 23.6 points per game, and you have to like his chances of dropping 20 against a team ranked 27th in defensive efficiency this season.

Michael Porter Jr. to record 6+ rebounds (-295)
Michael Porter Jr. has upped his rebounding game to a whole new level since the start of February. Over his last 11 outings, he’s averaging 9.3 rebounds per game, a noticeable jump from the 5.9 per game he averaged in January. MPJ is likely going to get the tough task of guarding KD here, which in theory should mean he will spend most of his time closer to the basket, with KD doing most of his damage from the mid-range area.
Phoenix is a mediocre rebounding team in road games this season, allowing 52.7 per game, and this is MPJ’s chance to continue his solid run rebounding the ball. He has cleared this line in 11 of 12 games and I would argue Gordon’s absence has lifted him to the 2nd-most important rebounder on the team behind Jokic. He’s also recorded at least 6 rebounds in 7 of 10 meetings against the Suns. Let’s bank on Porter being efficient on the glass to bring home our Suns vs Nuggets Same Game Parlay.
