Super Bowl 2025 live updates: Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22

The field cast member who disrupted the halftime show by displaying a flag will be banned from NFL stadiums and events for life, the league says.

The Chiefs wasted no time turning their attention to next season.

Whether that will include Travis Kelce remains to be seen. The star tight end has been noncommittal about retirement, and Mahomes said he would give his good buddy the time and space necessary to make that decision.

“He’s given so much to this team and to the NFL and been such a joy, not only for me to work with, but for people to watch. And so he knows he still has a lot of football left in him,” Mahomes said. “I know he still has love for the game, and he’ll get to spend some time with his family and make that decision on his own. But I mean, he knows he’ll come back here with welcome arms out. We love that guy.”

The person who disrupted the halftime show by displaying a flag was part of the 400 member field cast, the NFL says.

“The individual hid the item on his person and unveiled it late in the show,” the NFL said in a statement. “No one involved with the production was aware of the individual’s intent.”

Roc Nation, the entertainment company which produced the show, said the act “was neither planned nor part of the production and was never in any rehearsal.”

Mahomes said after the game the Eagles played great, he has to learn from this one, and all of it is going to motivate him.

“Anytime you lose a Super Bowl and it’s the worst thing in the world, It’ll stick with you the rest of your career,” he said. “I mean these will be the two losses that will motivate me to be even better, for the rest of my career.”

Cooper DeJean took one to the house, Zack Baun made a pick in his old professional home and the Eagles defense so thoroughly thrashed Mahomes that by the time Kendrick Lamar had “Game Over” brightened in the Superdome stands to end his halftime set, it was just as clear, so too, was the Super Bowl.

From Broad Street to Bourbon Street, the Eagles’ defense this season never failed 66-year-old defensive mastermind Vic Fangio. And the defense was never as great as it was in the Super Bowl.

An individual was “detained by NFL security on the field” during the halftime show, the New Orleans Police Department told The Associated Press in an emailed statement.

“Law enforcement is working to determine applicable charges in this incident,” police said.

There was a three-play sequence in the second quarter that not only summarized the way things went for Mahomes, but also the rest of the Chiefs.

Philadelphia had taken a 10-0 lead and the two-time defending champs were on the ropes when Mahomes was sacked by the Eagles’ Josh Sweat. On the next play, Sweat bottled him up again. And on the ensuing play, the two-time NFL MVP was under such duress that Mahomes threw an interception that Cooper DeJean returned 38 yards for a score.

Six sacks. Three turnovers. And not an ounce of Mahomes magic.

By the time he was done dragging himself off the Superdome turf, and the Eagles were able to run the last seconds off the clock, Mahomes and the Chiefs were sent home with a humbling — humiliating, even — defeat.

Hurts has often been judged by his failings more than his successes over the course of his career.

Getting benched at halftime of a college football championship game. Being forced to transfer from Alabama to Oklahoma just to be able to regain a starting job. Getting drafted in the second round to be a backup and then having his passing prowess questioned as he quickly became a starter and had a successful launch to his NFL career.

All those doubts helped fuel Hurts along the way and now he will be forever known as a Super Bowl MVP.

Taylor-Travis Bowl 2 was a somber affair, unlike its romantic predecessor.

Last year, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce locked lips on the field at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas as red and gold confetti fell around them like rain after the Chiefs won their second straight Super Bowl, the duo’s first since becoming a sports-and-music power couple.

There was no celebrating for the couple on the field or otherwise this time around.

AppleTV and Major League Soccer didn’t wait long to turn football season into futbol season.

A new ad featuring Inter Miami star and reigning MLS MVP Lionel Messi dropped shortly after the Super Bowl, telling fans that it’s now time for futbol — with the MLS season starting later this month.

BetMGM Sportsbook has installed the Eagles as favorites (+650) to win next year’s Super Bowl, with Baltimore (+700) the second choice.

Buffalo (+750), Kansas City (+750) and Detroit (+850) round out the top-five favorites for next season.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid made appearances in and out of the Caesars Superdome. He also greeted fans during ad breaks.

In one ad for Pringles, Reid and other stars see their famous mustaches fly away to help deliver the canned chips. And in another spot that aired after the game, he showcases his side hustle as a “male hand model” to promote easy-to-slip on Sketchers.

Hurts is the Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 221 yards and two scores, plus running for 72 yards and another score.

Jordan Brand has a message: “Love, Hurts”

Immediately after the Super Bowl, the brand released an ad congratulating Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and mocking his critics.

“Hate that you got it wrong?” the ad asks.

While the Eagles dominated the Chiefs, laughter dominated the commercials.

Eugene Levy’s eyebrows flew off and buzzed around after he ate some Little Caesars. Four old ladies went on a joy ride in a commercial for WeatherTech, while sloths had a case of the Mondays in an ad for Coors Light.

And British singer Seal became an actual seal, sad that he couldn’t hold Mountain Dew with his flippers.

Still, some ads had more serious messages. Pharmaceutical company Novartis urged women to get early detection for breast cancer, while Dove spotlighted the problem of low body confidence in young girls.

Hurts completed 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards, two TDs and an interception. He also rushed for 72 yards and a TD.

Mahomes completed 21 of 32 passes for 257 yards, three TDs and two interceptions.

Hurts is forever a Super Bowl winner now, but he lauded Philadelphia’s defense in his on-field interview with Fox.

“Defense wins championships,” Hurts said.

He also deflected credit to all his teammates: “I couldn’t do any of these things without the guys around me.”

At the end of Sirianni’s post-Super Bowl interview with Fox, he embraced his family and lifted one of his kids to his shoulder — leading an “E-A-G-L-E-S” chant.

Sirianni called football “the ultimate team game” in his post-Super Bowl interview.

“You can’t be great without the greatness of others,” he said.

Sirianni said the Eagles didn’t care what people thought about their path this season.

“All we wanted to do is win,” Sirianni said, later adding, “these guys did not want to let each other down.”

It’s over. Philadelphia has won the Super Bowl, beating Kansas City 40-22 behind 221 passing yards, two passing TDs and one rushing score from quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The 2-point conversion is good. It’s 40-22 with 1:48 remaining.

Worthy has eight catches for 157 yards and two scores for the Chiefs.

At least it’s looking respectable. Worthy hauls in a 50-yard TD pass from Mahomes with 1:48 left.

Nick Sirianni wasn’t welcomed to Philadelphia with open arms.

An awkward introductory news conference left media and fans questioning his qualifications. But all he’s done is win.

Sirianni has the fifth-best winning percentage in NFL history and is on the verge of becoming the second coach to lead the franchise to a Super Bowl victory.

Impressive for a guy fans showered with “Fire Nick” chants in October and national analysts called a “clown.”

Nick Sirianni got hit with the Gatorade with 2:52 remaining, which might be the earliest victory bath for a coach in a long time.

Also, for those betting on such things (because you could): The Gatorade was yellow.

Kansas City isn’t getting it done, so there’s never been a three-peat champion in the Super Bowl era.

The most recent three-peat champions in the other major U.S. pro leagues:

  • NBA — the Los Angeles Lakers, 2000-02
  • MLB — the New York Yankees, 1998-2000
  • NHL — the New York Islanders, 1980-83 (a four-peat)

LeBron James and Doja Cat made brief appearances in Taco Bell’s ad for the Super Bowl this year, but the fast food chain focused on its fans who aren’t celebrities.

The ad featured nearly 400 photos of Taco Bell customers, from more than 3,000 who drove photobooth cameras at the chain’s drive-ins this past December, according to the company.

The 2-point conversion is good and the Chiefs are within 26 points with 2:54 left, pretty much ensuring this won’t be the worst Super Bowl loss in the game’s history.

Mahomes has found DeAndre Hopkins for a touchdown, with 2:54 left in the game.

Philadelphia always plays NFC East rivals Dallas, Washington and the New York Giants home-and-away.

Here’s where the (soon-to-be) Super Bowl champions will also visit next season: The Eagles will play at Buffalo, Green Bay, Los Angeles (against the Chargers), Minnesota … and, yes, Kansas City.

Eagles kicker Jake Elliott had been shaky this season before the Super Bowl.

He was 28 of 36 in the regular season, making just 1 of 7 field goals from beyond 50 yards. He was 6 for 7 on field goals in the playoffs but missed three extra points.

Against the Chiefs, Elliott made his first eight kicks, including field goals of 48, 29, 48 and 50 yards.

There’s not going to be a three-peat by the Kansas City Chiefs.

And that means no big party for … the Miami Heat? Let’s explain.

Heat President Pat Riley owns some “Three-Peat” trademarks after beginning to file for them in the late 1980s, when the Los Angeles Lakers — who he was coaching at that time — were seeking three consecutive NBA titles.

Riley struck a deal with the Chiefs on three-peat usage, but there won’t be a three-peat, much to the dismay of the Heat.

“I know he’ll bring out the best wine and hopefully have a great organizational party on behalf of the great Pat Riley,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.

Heat forward Kevin Love also was hoping Riley would cash in and gift the Heat some wine after a Chiefs win. Alas, no three-peat. Maybe Riles will spring for some wine anyway.

Another field goal. It’s 40-6 Eagles with 8:01 left in the Super Bowl.

Film legend Harrison Ford headlines the Jeep® brand’s 2025 Super Bowl commercial

A two-minute ad from Jeep takes a more serious tone, enlisting Harrison Ford to talk about freedom.

No single definition emerges — and at one point, Ford says, “Freedom is yes. Or no. Or maybe.”

The actor encourages viewers to write their own “owner’s manual” of their lives.

“We won’t always agree on which way to go, but our differences will be our strength,” Ford says in the spot. He later adds: “This Jeep makes me happy, even though my name is Ford.”

Elliott has connected again on a field goal, and Philadelphia’s lead is 37-6 with 9:51 left to play.

The Eagles are rolling tonight, but as of now it’s not the biggest Super Bowl blowout in history.

Not even close.

The biggest Super rout was Jan. 28, 1990, when San Francisco beat Denver 55-10.

Maybe New Orleans is the city for blowout wins. That 55-10 game was also at the Superdome.

Kendrick Lamar’s cleaned-up-for-TV version of “Not Like Us” left out the usual slurs and swear words during his halftime performance.

He also skipped the key word “pedophile” during the ruthless Drake diss track. But he kept similar lines in the Grammy-winning song including “I hear you like ‘em young” and “Tryna strike a chord and it’s prolly A minor.”

Drake, who is touring in Australia, sued the record label he shares with Lamar over the track, calling its allegations false, inflammatory, shocking and dangerous.

Kevin Hart got a lot of shots in on Tom Brady during the infamous Netflix roast of the seven-time Super Bowl winner last year.

Brady took a shot of his own during the Super Bowl.

“Kevin Hart’s here? How did the cameras find Kevin Hart?” Brady asked, making a height joke toward the rather diminutive comic.

Philadelphia is one quarter away from a Super Bowl title. The Eagles had the ball to open the fourth quarter and have a four-touchdown lead.

Jalen Hurts is 15 of 20 for 201 yards and two passing yards.

Nike put the spotlight on women in sports this Super Bowl — in a spot featuring Caitlin Clark, Sha’Carri Richardson, Sabrina Ionescu, Jordan Chiles, A’ja Wilson and Sophia Wilson.

The spot lists all the “cant’s” that female athletes face and encourages them to prove people wrong and “Just Do It” anyway.

“You can’t win. So win,” the ad, which is narrated by Doechii, says.

Meanwhile, in an ad after halftime, the NFL centered girls’ sports in schools. The league called for girls flag football to become a varsity sport in all 50 states.

The Chiefs tried a 2-point conversion pass to Travis Kelce, but it failed. It’s 34-6 late in the third quarter.

Xavier Worthy made a diving 24-yard catch for a touchdown and Kansas City is on the board late in the third quarter.

Kansas City was favored by 1.5 points entering this Super Bowl.

The current line, according to BetMGM Sportsbook: Philadelphia by 29.5.

And the money line is off the board, since the books are convinced the Eagles will win this game.

Alabama gets on the Super Bowl scoreboard for the first ever.

The 46-yard touchdown catch by DeVonta Smith marked the first time a player who ended his college career at Alabama scored a point in a Super Bowl. While former Crimson Tide QBs Bart Starr and Ken Stabler threw TD passes in a Super Bowl, they don’t get credit for scoring the points.

There are 144 colleges who have had a player score in a Super Bowl before the 12-time AP champion Alabama joined the list.

The kick is good and the rout continues, Philadelphia now up 34-0.

One play, 46 yards, and this seems very over now. Jalen Hurts just found DeVonta Smith for another Philly touchdown.

In typical Super Bowl fashion, the celebrity reunions during ad breaks keep coming.

Häagen-Dazs reunited “Fast & Furious” stars Michelle Rodriguez, Vin Diesel and Ludacris in its spot during the third quarter. But this time, they’re driving going slow — to enjoy the brand’s ice cream bars.

It wouldn’t be the Super Bowl without some nostalgia, and bringing former onscreen co-stars back together is a tried-and-try approach. Earlier in the night, Hellmann’s also brought back Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal’s “When Harry Met Sally” characters to enjoy another sandwich at Katz’s Deli.

Kendrick Lamar’s 13-minute halftime set leaned heavily on the past year, with half of the songs in his 10-song set coming from his 2024 album “GNX.” Here’s are all the songs he included:

“Squabble Up”“Humble”“DNA”“Euphoria”“Man at the Garden”“Peekaboo”“Luther featuring SZA”“All the Stars featuring SZA”“Not Like Us”

“TV Off”

“Salutations!,” the actor Samuel L. Jackson dressed as Uncle Sam introduced Kendrick Lamar at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome for the Super Bowl halftime show.

It was a powerful, commanding creative choice by the first solo hip-hop artist to ever headline the coveted slot. As if there were any doubts of the Pulitzer Prize winning rapper’s ability to put on a show.

The Associated Press’ Maria Sherman describes Lamar’s performance as a continued victory lap in her review of the performance. SZA was a previously announced guest performer and frequent Lamar collaborator.

Every team in Super Bowl history has scored at least once. Kansas City has about 20 minutes of game time left tonight to extend that streak.

The record for fewest points in a Super Bowl is three, by the Los Angeles Rams in their 13-3 loss to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots six years ago.
