A suspect is in custody following a shooting at Florida State University in Tallahassee, local authorities tell PEOPLE.
A Tallahassee police spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE that a suspect had been taken in custody. The Florida State University Police Department is in charge of the investigation, the Leon County Sheriff’s Department tells PEOPLE.
CNN, citing law enforcement sources, reported that at least two people were killed in the shooting. The network previously reported that six people were hospitalized. It’s not clear if the two deceased people were among the six hospitalized.

CNN reports that a handgun was found on the person taken into custody, citing a law enforcement official. The official reportedly said a shotgun was found in the school’s student union and another gun was found in the person’s car.
The university’s emergency alert system announced at about 12 p.m. ET that there was an active shooter on campus, noting a “dangerous situation” alert.
Further information about the arrest, such as the identity of the shooter or their connection to the campus, was not immediately available.
