TikTok’s Newest ‘Legal Advocate’? Casey Anthony

Casey Anthony, who was acquitted on murder charges in the death of her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony in 2011, has joined TikTok as a “legal advocate.”

Anthony, in a video posted on Sunday, said the role is a way to champion both herself and her daughter.

“I am a legal advocate. I am a researcher,” Anthony said in her TikTok clip. “I’ve been in the legal field since 2011 and in this capacity, I feel that it’s necessary — if I’m going to continue to operate appropriately as a legal advocate — that I start to advocate for myself and also advocate for my daughter.”

A moment later, though, she said her TikTok launch was “not about” her daughter or her family, but rather, an opportunity to “reintroduce myself.”

The comments section on Anthony’s video was turned off; the video had 1.7 million views and 14,000 likes by Monday morning, and her TikTok account had 35,200 followers.

She did not offer many details on what her digital advocacy will look like. The Floridian said she was doing it to “give a voice to people” and to “give people tools and resources” they can use to defend themselves legally. Anthony also said this was a good opportunity for her to voice her support for the LGBTQ community and women’s rights.

“As a proponent for the LGBTQ community, for our legal community, women’s rights, I feel it’s important that I use this platform that was thrust upon me and now look at as a blessing, as opposed to the curse that it has been since 2008,” Anthony said.

Anthony was thrust into the national spotlight that same year, when her mom reported that Caylee Marie Anthony was missing to police; Anthony’s mom, Cindy, also said her daughter’s car smelled “like there’s been a dead body” in it. A day later, Anthony was arrested, and later, charged with first-degree murder. She was found not guilty of killing her daughter in 2011.

Her TikTok clip also directed viewers to follow her Substack account, which Anthony started last month. In a post on Sunday, Anthony insisted “the presumption of innocence is a sacred right” and that “we are plagued by a rush to judgement before someone even steps foot into a courtroom.”
