COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A Weather Alert Day is in effect Tuesday as Storm Team 4 tracks a round of strong to severe thunderstorms.

A line of storms out to the west moved into central Ohio this afternoon. The first round brings the most concern as storms are expected to cluster together and strengthen.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the majority of central Ohio until 7 p.m.

This storm as a history of producing severe weather throughout the central part of the county. By the time it arrives locally there will be enough ingredients in our environment to sustain some of its steam. The strongest activity is expected to arrive starting around 2 p.m.

As the evening goes on, the actual cold front will roll through the area. Light to steady rain looks like the main weather to come with the front, but we could still see an isolated storm and some gusty winds.

All hazards are on the table for the thunderstorms this afternoon. The two biggest threats will be for wind gusts and large hail. Gusts at times will reach over 60 mph while quarter size hail (one inch diameter) is also possible. There is also an elevated risk for isolated tornadoes.

Storm Team 4 will continue to monitor this system and provide any updates to changes in the forecast.
