Suspect shot, killed by police in Lexington church shooting identified
WON IT ALL. BUT FIRST, WE ARE FOLLOWING A MASS SHOOTING OUT OF LEXINGTON THIS MORNING. TWO WOMEN SHOT AND KILLED INSIDE A CHURCH. OUR SAM CARTER IS LIVE WITH WHAT WE KNOW RIGHT NOW. KERRY, YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD THERE. A LOT OF QUESTIONS LEFT STILL TO BE ANSWERED. BUT WE DO KNOW THAT THE LIVES OF TWO WOMEN WERE CLAIMED HERE, AS WELL AS THE SUSPECT AT RICHMOND ROAD BAPTIST CHURCH. NOW, EVERYTHING STARTED JUST OUTSIDE THE BLUEGRASS AIRPORT ON TERMINAL DRIVE, WHERE A LICENSE PLATE READER FLAGGED A CAR. THAT CAR WAS PULLED OVER. NOW, THE DRIVER OF THAT CAR, THE SUSPECT, THEN OPENED FIRE ON KENTUCKY STATE POLICE, HITTING A STATE TROOPER. THAT STATE TROOPER, LISTED IN STABLE CONDITION THIS MORNING. THAT DRIVER THEN LED POLICE ON A CHASE AT ONE POINT HIJACKING ANOTHER VEHICLE. NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THAT INCIDENT, BUT HE LED THEM HERE TO THIS BAPTIST CHURCH, WHERE POLICE SAY HE OPENED FIRE, HITTING FOUR PEOPLE, KILLING TWO OF THEM. 72 YEAR OLD BEVERLY GUMM AND 32 YEAR OLD CHRISTINA COMBS. TWO OTHER MEN WERE HIT, ONE OF THEM LISTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION, THE OTHER AS STABLE. NOW, TODAY. YESTERDAY, SPEAKING AT A NEWS CONFERENCE, THIS COMMUNITY IS LEFT TO PICK UP THE PIECES. YOU JUST GO TO CHURCH AND YOU WORSHIP. YOU FELLOWSHIP WITH YOUR FELLOW CHRISTIANS AND YOU REJOICE WITH THOSE WHO REJOICE. AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN SOME SOME GUY COMES IN AND JUST WANTS TO START SHOOTING THE PLACE. YEAH, LADIES. IT’S UNBELIEVABLE. ALMOST UNSPEAKABLE SCENE HERE. NOW, ACCORDING TO POLICE, THE SUSPECT WAS KILLED ON THIS PROPERTY BY RESPONDING OFFICERS WHO WERE WEARING BODY CAMERAS. SO WE DO HOPE TO LEARN MORE AS TIME GOES ON. UNTIL THEN, SAM CARTER WLKY NEWS. Police said House shot a Kentucky State Police trooper on Terminal Drive near Blue Grass Airport and fled to Richmond Road Baptist Church where they said he shot four people.You can see aerials of the scene at the church in the player below.Two of the shooting victims died of their injuries at the scene. LPD said three officers shot House during the incident. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Authorities said they would wait until House’s family was notified before identifying him to the public.
