Max Dowman and Marli Salmon make debuts; Josh Nichols makes an impact as Arsenal beat AC Milan in friendly

15-year-olds Max Dowman and Marli Salmon made their senior debuts as Arsenal beat AC Milan 1-0 in a friendly in Singapore, with Josh Nichols also featuring as a substitute.

Andre Harriman-Annous and Louie Copley received their first senior callups but didn’t come on, while Ismeal Kabia and Alexei Rojas were unused substitutes.

In the first half Ethan Nwaneri, who was wearing the number 22 shirt in a game for the first time, showed some encouraging signs.

Arsenal took the lead courtesy of Bukayo Saka in the 52nd minute.

Dowman, Salmon and Nichols all entered the fray in the 66th minute.

Deployed on the right wing, a position in which he has featured at youth level, Dowman caught the eye and shortly after his introduction he cut inside and shot wide.

The youngster also combined well with senior players including new signing Martin Zubimendi.

Salmon was composed at centre-back while Nichols also made an impact at right-back up against Rafael Leao for part of his time on the pitch.

A penalty shootout followed, with Dowman and Nichols converting their spot-kicks, although Salmon unfortunately missed his, with Milan winning the shootout 6-5 despite Kepa Arrizabalaga making three saves.
