Traders See Higher Chance of Rate Cuts This Summer

The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady on Wednesday, with Chair Jerome Powell saying “we’re not going to be in any hurry to move.”

Traders, on the other hand, came away from “Fed Day” thinking there’s a slightly higher chance of rate cuts by the summer.

Futures prices implied a 30% chance that rates are at least 0.5 percentage point lower after the Fed’s July 30 meeting than they are today, CME FedWatch data showed Wednesday after the Fed announcement and Powell remarks. Earlier in the day, the implied chance of such a downward move in rates was 23%.
